He cost £150,000 never scored at all for Everton, but on this day 30 years ago the Blues signed one of, if not their greatest ever player in Neville Southall.
Big Nev went on to play 750 times for the Blues which is a club record and I doubt that will ever be broken.
He won two League titles, and two FA Cups, one European Cup Winners Cup and countless Charity Shields in his time at the Blues.
Often a controversial character in his Everton and football career there was no doubting his talent, and in 1985 when the Blues won domestic and European honours Southy also picked up the Football Writers Player of The Year.
He left the Blues back in 1997 after a career spanning sixteen seasons, and although often a critic of the current goings on at Everton, there is no denying his love for his beloved Blues.
